Ever wondered if you the way you brush your teeth is right? Many are led to believe that the longer and harder you brush, the better the clean. Now although it is important to clean your teeth thoroughly and to brush and floss twice daily, brushing too hard can have bad results. On the other hand, brushing for too short a period of time is dangerous as well.

Some things to consider about your oral health routine:

Brush Time: On average, people brush for a duration of 45 seconds. This is not sufficient time to get the deep clean your teeth need. Two minutes is the recommended duration of time that should be observed for each toothbrushing session.

How old is your toothbrush? Odds are, you have been using the same toothbrush for too long. Toothbrushes should be replaced about every 3 to 4 months. When your brushes bristles start to appear frayed and broken, that is a sign that you are due for a new one.

Its possible to brush too hard! As was mentioned before, some people get a little overzealous when it comes to cleaning their teeth. Although your teeth are made up of bone and hard minerals, they are still fragile and needed to be taken care of gently. Ensure that you use a soft bristled brush to avoid being overly abrasive on tooth enamel and gums.

Store your toothbrush in a safe place: It is important to keep your toothbrush in an area where it can dry out. It should be placed upright and not stored in a closed container as these prevent them from drying properly so that germs can grow more easily.
